iconograpy in Rush

Analysis of the opening scene of “Rush”
Looking for iconography

The iconography of car action in this scene is very strong and shows up from the second the scene starts.

The scene starts with the tittle sequence, where there is a background of the sky, and the titles are appearing. While all this is happening the first iconography starts to make itself known, some mumbled voices start to talk and become more clear after a few seconds, it becomes clear that there racing commentary voices of past races. This signifies that the film has something to do with racing.

After the tittle sequence there are many more iconography’s and the most obvious of them all are the close up shots of the actual race cars, tis signifies speed, danger and implies the film is definitely about F1.

There are also many other icons such as the costume of both the main characters and the backup cast. The main characters both Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Bruhl are both wearing professional race jumpsuits, signifying professionalism and power in the sport.

And the background cast are the ones working there who are wearing yellow water prof overcoats, signifying that they are workers, and there are also paparazzi, who are all wearing normal cloth but all have cameras, this signifies that this is a well known sport.
